Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before your first meeting.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. Meetings are free and open to everyone.

Are there any requirements to join?

Just one: sign up or let us know you’re coming, so we can prepare materials and organize the groups. No minimum level or particular immigration status needed.

How do I sign up?

Join our Facebook group: we post every meeting there and you can confirm your attendance. The “RSVP” button takes you straight to the group. If you can’t make it after all, let us know so we can rearrange the groups.

What level do I need?

Any level. Some people are saying their very first sentence, others are bilingual. We organize things so everyone can take part.

Which languages are practised?

English and Spanish. Spanish speakers practise English, and English speakers practise Spanish. If your native language is something else, you’re still welcome to practise with us and share your culture.

Is it only for immigrants?

No. It’s for everyone: newcomers who want to practise English, and locals who want to learn Spanish and meet other cultures.

What is a typical meeting like?

We take turns. When it’s your turn, the whole group speaks your second language and helps you practise; then it’s someone else’s turn and you support them in your native language. Sometimes we’re one big group, sometimes we split into smaller ones.

Do I have to come every week?

No. Come whenever you can. Each meeting stands on its own.

Can I bring my kids or a friend?

Of course! Families and friends are welcome. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself. If you like, bring a notebook to jot down new words.

How can I volunteer?

Message us in our Facebook group. We always need help hosting conversations, organizing events, taking photos or spreading the word.
